A zone that will not hold its number
The first sign is usually on the display or in the hand: a zone reading several degrees above where it was set, or a bottle of white that comes out no cooler than the red beside it. Before calling it a fault, rule out the simple things Sub-Zero lists for a warm wine unit. Electronic panels accept settings from 34°F to 65°F, so check nobody has nudged one. A case of new bottles loaded at room temperature lifts the reading for a while, and so does a door that was left ajar or held off its seal by a bottle neck. After any correction, give the cabinet 24 hours before you judge it.
If the number is still wrong after that, the fault is usually about air.
Air before anything else
Sub-Zero wine storage relies on more than one fan, and a stopped or slowing fan is the first cause the manufacturer names for a warm unit. A zone warming on its own while the other holds suggests the refrigeration is still doing its work, and sends us to the air moving inside the cabinet. When both zones slip together, we look lower. On the undercounter and integrated wine units the condenser sits behind the kickplate at the base, just above the floor, where dust, pet hair and kitchen lint collect unseen. A condenser that cannot shed heat makes the compressor run long and the whole cabinet warm.
Sensors come next, since a zone that reads wrong gets controlled wrong. The sealed system, with its compressor, is tested last.
Getting to the cabinet
