Two machines behind one run of cabinetry
From across the kitchen a column pair reads as one appliance, but each column is a refrigerator or a freezer in its own right, with its own cooling, fans and controls. The healthy one is no evidence about its neighbor, so we begin where the warmth is.
On the freezer, what we usually find is defrost. On Sub-Zero’s classic 600-series built-ins the defrost heater, the terminator that ends each defrost and the heated drain trough all sit on the freezer side, and when one of them fails, frost builds on the coil until air can no longer get through. Columns are built differently from those classic units, which is one reason we want the model number before the visit.
On the refrigerator the story is air and seals: a fan motor like the one in the frame running slow or not at all, or a gasket that no longer meets the cabinet.
Gates and steep streets
The Highlands sits behind a gate, and some streets toward the water are steep or narrow. If a gate code, a call to a gatehouse or a particular entrance is involved, tell us at booking, together with where to park and who will be home.
What to say on the phone
Say which unit is warm, what both displays read and whether frost is visible, and give the model number from the tag inside the warm unit. Sub-Zero Appliance Repair Seattle takes those details at (206) 339-4211.

Fresh food side crept into the low fifties while the freezer stayed solid, so I assumed the whole unit was finished. It was the evaporator fan on the fresh food circuit, and he had one on the van. Cold air again inside two hours.

Salt air off the bluff, and our integrated wine column had started icing at the back of the lower zone. Blocked drain, humidity control given up. He cleared it, fitted the part, showed me the vents.
Rafael Q.Magnolia
Freezer went warm between Christmas and New Year with a season of food inside. Someone answered at ten at night. Failed defrost thermostat, and he moved the food into a cooler while it pulled back down.
